The total number of coronavirus cases in India has climbed to 195 after over 35 new cases, highest in a single day, emerged from the various parts of the country. At present, there are 171 active coronavirus patients in the country, according to the data released by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The total cases in India include 163 Indians and 32 foreign nationals. India reported its fourth casualty of COVID-19 infection on Thursday. The Centre on Thursday confirmed that a 72-year-old man, who had returned from Germany via Italy, died in Punjab due to coronavirus infection. The three other deaths were reported from Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The cases in Maharashtra rose to 48 where as Kerala witnessed as many as 28 coronavirus patients. Delhi has recorded 17 coronavirus cases till date. Telangana saw the highest number of reported cases on Wednesday after a group of seven Indonesians and a youth, who returned from Scotland, confirmed positive with COVID-19. Karnataka has reported 15 COVID-19 cases so far.

Chandigarh reported its first case on Thursday with a 23-year-old woman testing positive for the novel coronavirus. In Uttar Pradesh, two more diagnosed with coronavirus disease on Thursday, taking the total confirmed cases in the state to 19. In Chhattisgarh, a 24-year-old woman tested positive on Thursday. Gujarat also reported the first cases of coronavirus on Thursday with two cases reported from Rajkot and Surat.

At present, there two coronavirus patients in Andhra Pradesh. Ladakh has so far reported 10 coronavirus cases which included Indian Army soldier. Uttarakhand, Odisha and West Bengal have confirmed one case each.

A total of 20 patients have been discharged so far, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said today.

As India continues to reel under the threat of COVID-19, the government on Thursday decided to not allow any international commercial passenger aircraft to land during 22-29 March.

Indian Railways suspended concessional booking of all tickets, except for patients, students and Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) categories for unreserved and reserved segments from the midnight of 20 March till further notice. The move is aimed at discouraging senior citizens from travelling.

In a drastic step to prevent a surge in coronavirus cases in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a 'janata curfew' on Sunday. In an address to the nation on Thursday evening, Modi asked citizens to voluntarily stay indoors from 7am till 9pm.

Western Railway decided to cancel AC local services in Maharashtra from Friday. The AC local trains will be replaced by non-AC suburban trains till March 31. Punjab government announced suspension of public transport services from Friday midnight as the state reported first death due to COVID-19 infection. Authorities imposed Section 144 of CrPC in Noida to avoid public gathering.
